OUR MISSION Eating Disorders Support is a website designed to give you hope and encouragement if you or someone you know or love has anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or an overeating disorder. The mission of Eating Disorders Support is fourfold: (1) to provide you with information regarding the etiology and treatment of eating disorders, (2) to encourage you if you have an eating disorder as you face the challenges of recovery, (3) to provide a safe place for you to ask questions about how to find help, (4) to provide resources that may help you in the journey toward health and freedom from eating disorder behaviors. Community Center at Mercerview 8236 SE 24th Street Mercer Island, WA 98040 THIS GROUP IS FOR YOU IF YOU... ¨ Have a drive for thinness ¨ Have anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, EDNOS, or a related eating disorder ¨ Are willing to focus on issues other than eating disorder behaviors ¨ Have a daughter, spouse, or friend with an eating disorder ¨ Want to learn about recovery THIS GROUP IS NOT FOR YOU IF YOU... ¨ Want to talk about food or weight behaviors or learn new ones ¨ Are not ready to learn about recovery
GENERAL INFORMATION ¨ EDSG is appropriate for people with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, orthorexia nervosa or eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS) as long as there is a drive for thinness present. ¨ There are two groups: one group for people with eating disorders and one for family, friends, or spouses. ¨ The groups are free. Advance registration is not required. ¨ All facilitators have had direct experience with an eating disorder. ¨ All facilitators go through a screening and specialized training workshop. ¨ All ages are welcome. About twenty years ago, Kim Lampson facilitated a support group for people with eating disorders and their families. The group met every two weeks and the people attending wanted there to be some connection in between times. In response, Kim began writing a newsletter to give hope and encouragement to the people in recovery and their families. |
